Mazatlán Travel Tips

Mazatlán is one of the closest and most visited tourist destination of the United States, offering an authentic, historic Mexican flair with top-of-the-line resort style accommodations.

This is the best of both worlds located along 10 miles of the central Pacific coastline. It offers a very relaxed and laid back vibe while also providing a variety of interesting things to see and do, from all kinds of beach activities and water sports to world-class golfing facilities and tours of the nearby wildlife mangroves

Getting around Mazatlán

When discussing certain types of Mazatlán travel tips with first-time tourists, we often forewarn new visitors that while Mazatlán is very current with new technologies, the city does not offer a public transportation system from the airport and throughout the city. However, affordable taxicab rides are always easy to find. Bicycle rentals are very popular as are the “pulmonias”, a sort of open-air golf cart that zips through the city streets for the cost of only a few pesos.

Mazatlán Travel Tips

Ferry Rides to Mazatlán

One of the most beautiful, although perhaps more timely, ways to travel to Mazatlán by way of the United States is by the Baja Ferry which travels from Baja California Sur to Mazatlán on a scenic ferry ride that lasts about 17 hours. At certain times of the year, you might be able to find certain travel discounts for the Ferry. Once you arrive to the three-island chain of Mazatlán, look for town signs that say “El Faro”. These signs will lead you to the highest natural lighthouse in the world, soaring some 515 feet above sea level.

Check out the Centro Histórico

The Centro Histórico area of Mazatlán boasts some of the oldest buildings of the area. As one of the “must-see” Mazatlán travel tips, the Plaza Principal is an impressive 19th century cathedral that is always a star attraction. And the impressive Machado Square is bordered by the Teatro Angela Peralta, another majestic and historical structure that often provides many of Mazatlán’s entertainment venues from live music to theatre productions.
